Hessenpark – Exibitions

So inside some of the buildings are different exhibitions. I mean I guess you can’t call yourself a museum without exhibitions, right? Anyway, I wasn’t going to post these, as they are behind glass and hard to get a good picture – but I can’t convey the experience without including them either! My favorite one was the camera exhibit (SHOCKER!) and I did spend more time in there than I should have considering my time restraints, but at that point I don’t think I was aware of how pressed for time I was. Here are links to these places. Continue reading Hessenpark – Exibitions

Hessenpark Open Air Museum

About 30 minutes from Frankfurt is Hessenpark a huge open air museum that has over a hundred buildings that were brought in from all over Hesse and restored. A lot of them have different museum exhibitions in them and some of them are restored to the period from which they came from. There is a lot of open area to that is ideal for a casual stroll. Because I changed my itinerary at the last minute I also procrastinated a bit and got there late, I was only able to spend about 4 hours to explore, you need at least … Continue reading Hessenpark Open Air Museum

Hohenschwangau/Neuschwanstein Castle/Marienbrücke

One more post from my Neuschwanstein Castle Trip. These are mostly just more shots walking up to the castle, but the main theme for this post is Marienbrücke (Mary’s Bridge, aka Pöllat Bridge). The Bridge gives an excellent view of the castle and a great view of the gorge below. When I first walked on to it there was just a mass of people all blocking the way across trying to get pictures of themselves with the castle in the background. I also got a shot of it with me and my niece, but we had moved down to a … Continue reading Hohenschwangau/Neuschwanstein Castle/Marienbrücke

Hohenschwangau/Neuschwanstein Castle

Part One – Splitting this one up since it’s been so long since I’ve posted anything. Hopefully there won’t be such a large time gap until the next one. Hohenschwangau is at the base of Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle. To get to Neuschwanstein Castle you can take a bus, horse drawn carriage or walk. It’s a 30-40 minute walk which we did, and with it being Fall it was an absolute goregous hike! Also there is a bridge that you can walk across and get some very spectacular views of the castle. (See previous post) Continue reading Hohenschwangau/Neuschwanstein Castle

Frankenstein’s Castle

NO! Nope! Something’s not right, Let me think……. Wait, I got it – hold on a second, lets reset. Frankenstein’s Castle When Jessica told me to start looking for things to see while I was in Germany I came across Frankenstein’s Castle. You know, the castle that was the supposed inspiration for Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein. Who could pass that up? I was really looking forward to that, but when I got to Germany and started looking deeper, it seemed like this was just another tourist trap. Yes a castle, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do it. Luckily, … Continue reading Frankenstein’s Castle

Memorial Neuer Börneplatz

The Neuer Börneplatz memorial in Frankfurt  commemorates the Jewish community of Frankfurt that was destroyed in the Holocaust. I can’t really do any justice in describing it, as I really had no idea of the full story of what I was photographing until I researched it later. I did a Google search and there are a couple of sites for you to read, but I will go to my old fallback of Wikipedia – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Neuer_B%C3%B6rneplatz Continue reading Memorial Neuer Börneplatz
